Introduction

Casa Medici Designs specializes in the design & manufacturing of contemporary architectural elements, accessories and furnishings made of polyurethane resin, “faux cement” and fiberglass.

We cater mostly to the hospitality, high-end (mostly flagship) retail stores and restaurant/nightlife industries. Some of our more notable recent projects include The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, Atlantis in Dubai, the W Hotel in Hollywood, Disney in Orlando and a photo-op mock 707 Boeing jet for Southwest Airlines housed at the Indianapolis Colts Football Stadium. We also fabricate a lot of bespoke architectural elements, accessories and furnishings for modern private residences (these include a virtually endless array of products, including: wall paneling, wall art, dividers, table & counter tops, door inlays, bar tops or façades, lighting and other furnishings).

Our polyurethane resin manufacturing capabilities include producing pieces with embeds, 3D-patterned concave or convex designs, poured over a molded sculpture or design and, in terms of coloring, the pieces can be rendered translucent, made to match any level of opacity desired (with either even or arbitrary coloration using translucent dyes or opaque paints) or back-painted (with either flat or metallic colors for reflection if painted over a 3D pattern). We can even emulate natural objects and have already produced resin resembling burlwood, onyx, aged cheese and multiple colors & variations of marble. Needless to say, we can obviously match any pantone or color sample requested as well.

Unlike acrylic or glass, since resin is a liquid, the possibilities of coloring a panel are virtually limitless in terms of how the color is applied (ie, back-painted, colored evenly or in an abstract manner within the panel and at any level of translucency from a light hue to completely opaque – again, BOTH within the girth of the panel or on either exterior side). Moreover, because of how fine the liquid settles, whether molding a sculpture or pattern, the detail which can be achieved is extremely fine.

In addition to the various coloration/painting techniques and embedding artifacts as illustrated above, resin is most desired for its propensity for color play; whether with a dedicated light source to highlight dyed resin or natural light reflecting off the resin (largely evident with our 3D-patterned, metallic back-painted coloring technique). As such, resin is usually used in a myriad of applications where illumination is a factor with these panels, all designs that include a 3D convex pattern are usually applied vertically, whereas those panels that include a concave or wholly-contained item or paint/dye within a panel can be applied both vertically or horizontally.

Faux cement” is essentially a “molasses” comprising of Castmaster-like materials to create an opaque surface covering usually applied as bar tops & wall treatments and emulating cement, stone, various types of wood, colored to resemble sand, terracotta or any opaque natural artifact.

Other than the largely one-of-a-kind custom polyurethane resin fabrications and surface coverings mentioned above, we use fiberglass reinforced with laminating resin (both to achieve a smoothness in the finished piece as well as act as an adhesive, for structural integrity) when needing to create multiple identical items for multi-unit residential or hospitality establishments (ie, many items of an identical piece needed for either residences or the hospitality sector), a few examples of which are the following:

  • Bathroom counters & sinks (as a single unit, or as separate pieces; faux cement (cheaper), resin (expensive, but possible to manufacture with any level of translucency & reflectiveness, if so desired) or a combination of both)
  • Shower walls (for both newly-constructed units or affixed to existing walls (without the need to demolish them); faux cement or fiberglass)
  • Shower pans (fiberglass)
  • Kitchen counters & back splashes fabricated as one solid item in a single mold or multi-part surface (faux cement (cheaper) or resin (expensive, but possible to manufacture with any level of translucency & reflectiveness, if so desired)
  • Patterned wall panels – either 3D patterned wall panels or faux-finished ones (even finishing emulating marble, granite or any wood type-basically, any wood, stone or texture/color desired; fiberglass or faux cement)
  • Dividers/privacy panels/partitions – for bathrooms (besides urinals or to encase stalls), work desks (to separate communal work tables), or as room dividers; fiberglass, faux cement (cheaper) or resin (expensive, but possible to manufacture with any level of translucency & reflectiveness, if so desired)
  • Patio & pool furniture – benches, chaise loungers, etc. (fiberglass)
  • Planters & outdoor ash trays (fiberglass finished with laminating resin)
  • Wall art (fiberglass or resin, with a myriad of different options from 3D textured faux-finished panels to our striped or other geometric designs; both “Organic” (ie, inspired by nature) or “Architectural” (ie, more geometric and symmetrical)).

Most of our products are appropriate for both indoor & exterior usage/exposure and are available with an extremely durable matte, semi-gloss or high-gloss coating (usually determined as a function of intended use and appearance considerations).

The gamut of our custom design and product manufacturing capabilities is virtually limitless as we are able to offer an endless array & combination of options between materials used, color selection & application (not to mention our custom finishes) and a flair for originality and uniqueness, yet still maintaining a utilitarian and practical approach applied to everything we create.
